PORTALS somehow affected Design Interaktiver Medien Portals recur in literature as gateways, entrances or doors to other worlds—often times as an escape from reality and into a more fictional realm. In computing terms, a portal is a starting point or site, such as Lycos, or the now defunct AltaVista, from which to search for subject matter on the internet. How can we use the metaphor of the portal to re-imagine not only the concept of network access, but also conceptual and minimal art? PORTAL_NET looks to various examples from ancient architecture, literature, German conceptualism, and net culture in order to re-define the experience of physical and online passage in the 21st century. Yusef Audeh (b. 1989, Florida, USA, Fourth World) is an artist. HEADY FUUSE is an invented anagram of his name, meaning "a quick-witted strip of wire that can melt and break an electrical circuit, when provoked." Yusef's work investigates technological and symbolic systems of representation and production, using fictional, cinematic and linguistic devices. He has exhibited at Townhouse Gallery, Egypt (2013), Red Bull Studios, New York (2015), CONTROL: Experiment, Sweden (2016), and the Botín Foundation, Spain (2017). He has a background in architecture and a Master of Science in Art, Culture and Technology from MIT. |
